JOURNALISTS TRAINING PROGRAM
 
Journalists training program is one of the priority directions of Central Asia AIDS Control Project activity, the final goal of which is the confidential journalists circle establishment (journalists pool) in four Central Asian Project member countries.  
 
For this purpose the following activity directions are envisaged:
  • Journalists training program
  • The annual conducting of competition on the best mass media covering of HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment problem
  • Mass Media representatives involving into the participation in the study tours
  • Mass Media involving into the participation in the Project Grant Program
 
Population informing of HIV/AIDS issue, stigma elimination and conscious changing in the society towards people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) is not possible without active involving of mass media representatives into the process of reliable information getting in the field of this theme and training. 
 
Journalists training program
 
Journalists training program is aimed at the increasing of awareness level of journalists and editors of mass media of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The main program goal is providing of qualitative and regular covering of HIV/AIDS issue in the regional mass media.
 
In the frame of this program, the Project together with international organization Transatlantic Partners against HIV (TPAH) develops the complex educational manual for journalists in the field of HIV/AIDS problem. This manual will be translated into languages of the region and will be used in journalists training of four Central Asian countries.
  
The training task is to improve journalists understanding concerning this theme, contribute to HIV/AIDS problem analysis in their publications and programs; support journalists’ and editors’ efforts in the work on audience’s awareness in infection prevention and supporting people living with HIV/AIDS. 
In this regard, the Project has planned the conducting of regional training course with the aim to prepare journalists-trainers, who in their turn will be involved in the national trainings conducting in their countries. Also, the study tour in Russian Federation will be organized for the most active journalists.

The annual conducting of competition on the best mass media covering of HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment problem
 
Every year the Central Asia AIDS Control Project together with the National “AIDS” Centers as well as with other international partner organizations conduct the competition on the best mass media covering of HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment issues in Central Asian countries. 
The competition goals are:
  • To attract the attention of wide publicity to the problem solving process, concerning the HIV/AIDS epidemic rapid growth among the population;
  • To stimulate journalists’ attention to this problem.
