Regional Training Courses

One of the components, planned in the frame of the Project Component 1, is the creation, development and maintaining on the basis of existing institutes in four Central Asian countries. Through the Regional Training Courses (RTC) instructors will receive training in several directions:

  • Kazakhstan – work with young people on HIV prevention
  • Kyrgyzstan - harm reduction programs
  • Tajikistan – work with migrants and members of their families
  • Uzbekistan – programs on treatment and care of people living with HIV
The work already completed:

In spring of 2007 RPMU specialists together with the national specialists of RTC development made visits to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. They gathered information on existing educational materials, trainings which were conducted and the existing data base on trained instructors familiar with treatment and prevention on HIV/AIDS in countries above.

As a result of the mentioned visits to the countries, they succeeded in carrying out meetings with representatives of all key organizations, engaged in the discussions of HIV epidemic counteraction, reaching an agreement of cooperation. The most important aspect became the fact that the agreement on joint work was made with representatives of Ministries, institutions and governmental organizations, who enthusiastically accepted RPMU initiatives. These initiatives concerned educational processes systematization, the institualization of educational materials and a regional approach of staff training and retraining on HIV/AIDS issues.

In the course of the work there was noted a high necessity for educational programs addressing various questions of HIV epidemic counteraction in all of the countries.

Conducting meetings allowed from establishment of organizations and the training of instructors
in all Project member countries, which could play key roles in the development of educational materials for the RTC.

The work to be accomplished:
  • Regional working consultant groups, including the representatives of all Project member countries will be established for the development of educational modules for every RTC and course in general aimed at providing a regional approach and international technical consultants assistance (as necessary).
  • In individual countries, the educational modules, developed by the regional working groups, and created in the unique training courses for RTC will go through review by Governmental, International and Non-Governmental organizations before they are approved.
  • The workshops will be conducted by RTC instructors on the existing educational programs and they have been planned to be on June-July 2007.
  • It is planned to organize and conduct the first regional training courses (September-November) as soon as educational materials and trainers are ready.
