Sentinel Surveillance (SES)
The important part of HIV infection spreading control measures is the epidemiological surveillance, what allows on the regular basis making data collecting, analysis and interpretation and providing healthcare organs and other interested parts with the information. Sentinel Surveillance (SS) including HIV surveillance is one of the types of epidemiological surveillance, which allow estimating the epidemiological situation in the target groups and making the estimate of population in general. Target SES groups are the vulnerable groups of population.

SS tasks:
  • HIV spreading and distribution evaluation in various groups of population;
  • HIV – infection spreading tendencies during the defined time period;
  • Detecting of groups of population, having the high contracting risk;
  • Evaluation of behavioral models and risking factors, defining the possibilities of HIV contracting;
  • Data using in the development, planning and introduction of the preventive programs;
  • HIV-infection spreading forecasting for the separate territories of CA republics and the region in general;
  • Information providing for the development of infection control programs and basing of necessary recourses providing;
  • Evaluation of control and prevention programs progress
 System of Electronic Surveillance of HIV-infection cases (ES)

System of HIV cases surveillance in the countries has been existed since the first HIV cases were registered, but only in the hard (paper) copies. On this stage, from the beginning of ARV-therapy providing the necessity in regular patients’ following up from the moment of their registration reached its crisis point It is necessary to control on the regular basis the dynamics of immune system condition of HIV contracted patient to define the ARV-therapy beginning and the therapy effect control of this or that ARV-therapy schemes.
System of Electronic Surveillance of HIV cases is being developed exactly for this purpose, the main goals of which are:
  • To support people living with HIV and AIDS (HIV is infection, while AIDS is the lasting chronicle disease, demanding a very long and expensive care and treatment);
  • To evaluate epidemiological situation (one of the important evaluation and HIV prevention measures planning instruments);
  • To evaluate the ARV-therapy influence on patient and society.

Electronic Surveillance of HIV-infection main tasks:
  • Indications and preparation for the ARV-therapy;
  • ARV-therapy conducting and control of patient’s condition in the course of ARV-therapy;
  • Dynamics of patient’s laboratory indicators;
  • Control of side effects and opportunistic diseases development;
  • Timely medical help rendering by indications;
  • Providing patients having therapeutic indications  with the access to ARV-therapy;
  • ARV-therapy efficacy estimation.
