Immediately following the Regional training of trainers on the issues of HIV prevention among labor migrants, which took place in Tajikistan during last week (November 16-20, 2009), successive national training of local trainers have been organized with participation of representatives of nongovernmental organizations of Kazakhstan.
20 participants from different oblasts of Kazakhstan, who already have experience working with labor migrants in the country, are involved in the training. Training skills of participants will be worked out in the course of the seminar through interactive techniques. The subject of the training will include consideration of both medical and legislative aspects of this issue.
The representative of regional office of International Organization for Migration in Kazakhstan will familiarize participants with legal aspects of migration issue, both at national and international level. Moreover, the presentation will be made on existing situation on migration in Kazakhstan, and draft law on labor migrants in Republic of Kazakhstan, which at present is under consideration of the Government of Kazakhstan, will be brought to the attention of participants. In addition, seminar attendants will be briefed about International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.
The training is carried out by the trainers of regional level who have significant working experience in the region on training of trainers in all countries of Central Asia on issues of HIV prevention among migrants and their family members. It is planned that participants will obtain essential knowledge on the given problem. Upon completion of five-day seminar participants will receive certificates and obtain status of national trainers on HIV prevention issues among labor migrants, and in future, be able independently to work with target groups in their oblasts.
Considering the urgency of this problem in Tajikistan, the organizers of this activity considered it necessary to invite two trainers directly from Tajikistan. Since Kazakhstan remains to be one of the main countries of destination of migrants from Central Asia carrying out such training in the country will help to mitigate the problem of HIV spreading among vulnerable group - migrants. |
