Training seminar on writing reports based on the results of Sentinel Surveillance carried out in 2008 on HIV infection in the Kyrgyz Republic
 
Training seminar on writing reports based on the results of sentinel surveillance carried out in 2008 on HIV infection in the Kyrgyz Republic through application of “Epilnfo” program took place in Bishkek, on December 14-18, 2009. The organization and financing of this seminar was due to the Central Asia AIDS Control Project, and methodical support was provided by the trained trainers of Republican AIDS Center of the Kyrgyz Republic.
 
The specialists of the Republican AIDS Center and trained specialists of the oblasts AIDS control and prevention centers (head physicians, epidemiologists, assistant epidemiologists, doctors-laboratory assistants), who were involved in organization, conduction and entry of SS data in pilot cities of Bishkek, Batken, Jalalabad, Tokmok and Kara-Kol participated in the seminar.
 
The purpose of the given training was preparation of reports on the surveillance groups covered by SS in 2008. During the training the goals and objectives of SS, sociodemographic data of respondents, methods of calculating the selection, rules of composing questionnaires have been described; calculation of HIV prevalence, syphilis and  hepatites C has been done; laboratory stage of carrying out SS have been described. Characteristics of risky behavior of each surveillance group (IDU, SW, MSM, prisoners with STD symptoms, pregnant women) were described in details as well.
 
The reports based on the results of SS carried out in 2008 in the Kyrgyz Republic among injecting drug users (IDU), sex workers (SW), prisoners, the men having sexual relationship with men, patients with STD symptoms and pregnant women have been prepared in the course of the training. Detailed conclusions have been drawn and recommendations were provided on further steps concerning all of the three infections: HIV, syphilis and hepatites C.
