Under the initiative of Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan and with the support of the Central Asia AIDS Control Project on the basis of Republican AIDS Prevention Center in Almaty, Regional HIV-Infection Epidemiological Surveillance Training Center in Central Asian countries (RESTC) has started its work on December 1, 2009. At the initial stage staff structure of the Regional Training Center consists of Development and Management Coordinator, Program Coordinator and three experts: Epidemiology Consultant, Laboratory Diagnostics Consultant, Clinical Consultant.
RESTC activity will be realized in three key directions:

Sentinel surveillance;

HIV/AIDS cases epidemiological surveillance based on implementation and development of the electronic tracking for the cases;

Research, training-methodical and counseling activity.
Expected results at the first stage of Center’s work:

resource databases on trained experts and training methodical materials have been created.

basic training courses on the subject of carrying out sentinel surveillance of HIV-infection in the region for epidemiology and laboratory specialists have been developed.

Planned activities on SS and Electronic tracking program have been carried out.
